Charter
In ancient times the world has seen its fair share of attempted empires.
One in particular sparked the beginning of a vast underground unit known to
the privileged as the Protectors of the Balance.

A young wizard grew up near the town of Darkhaven, infatuated with power and
control, so much he hungered for it. As he grew he traveled around the world,
finding followers through use of magic and persuasion, and starting his own
small band of thugs and thieves. Eventually they corrupted more, and had
established assault units on all major trading roads, making it unsafe for
travelers between towns. Slowly the organization grew until they had their
own small town of an encampment somewhere in the mountains near Denab-Knur.
The group was ruthless as they ransacked caravans, capturing and converting
those they could, killing those they couldn't. Finally the wizard commanded a
small army, and started a conquest across the known world, leaving devastation
in its wake, sending anybody they could capture to the wizard to be converted
and death came swiftly to the rest.

As with any deadly force, a resistance soon took shape. It was started by a
young priest who had narrowly evaded death when his caravan was ambushed on
their way to a refuge. He was furious with the wizard's army for causing the
death of his family and so many others, and decided to end it all. He started
by gathering a few close friends, training in a small grove deep in the Vaasa
forest. When they deemed themselves fit, they started the revolt.

First they moved through the near encampments made by the wizard's army,
attacking at night, and kidnapping a few of the guards on duty. They worked
tirelessly to find a cure for the wizard's corruption, and after a few weeks
discovered how to free their captive's minds. Slowly their ranks grew and
they began to intercept prisoners on their way to the wizard, capturing and
freeing the guards transporting them if possible, killing them otherwise.
They always gave a proper burial to those they couldn't save.

While the years passed, the priest came ever closer to his final goal, and
eventually, the day came. He led a mighty army to the wizard's fortress, and
started the attack. The battle took days, but finally the walls fell, and the
priest met the wizard face to face in the great hall. The skirmish was
fierce. Men from both sides sat in awe at the raw power that was thrown between
the two foes. The room flashed rapidly as spells were released and deflected,
and physical blows imbued with their own personal magic were delivered to one
another. Finally the priest was able to shatter the wizard's defenses, and
sent the vulnerable man through the stone walls, finishing him for good.

When the wizard died, so did his magic. The fighting ceased immediately, and
men from both sides broke down in exhaustion. The land around the fortress
was devastated and full of death. Clerics walked the battlefields, doing
their best, but all too many lives were lost already.

After seeing the results of such a horrifying event, the priest was determined
never to let it happen again. He gathered his most trusted friends, and they
vowed to never let the people fall under such influence again.
They set off to travel the lands and make sure that the people of the world
remained completely free.

Before he died, the priest searched the lands for another like himself. He
tested each candidate in the most cunning of ways, making sure they were
perfect to be his successor. When he finally found the kid he was looking
for, he spent the rest of his life teaching him all he knew, and finally the
day came where the priest passed away. Since then the leadership of the clan
has been passed down in such a way, making sure that each successor knew the
meaning of true balance, and would fight to the end for it.

Our Purpose

We strive to bring every member to an elite status. In order to keep the
balance between powers, good and evil alike, and to keep all peoples of all
races free, we must be able to overcome any foe. We achieve this through
teamwork, as we are exponentially stronger in this way. What's best for the
individuals is what's best for the clan, and what's best for the clan is best
for the individuals.

Hierarchy

The clan is led by neutral-aligned people to remove bias from any decision
made. The Balanced Lord is at the top of the ladder, and called the Balanced
Lord for lack of a better term. Under him is his most trusted friend and
comrade, who serves as the Keeper of Balance. The Keeper of Balance keeps a
balance of power within the clan, so history can't repeat itself.

The Balanced Lord and the Keeper of Balance make sure each other listen to the
voices of the clan. If a decision must be made that influences the clan,
whether it be personnel, groups, or stronghold affairs, then the clan
discusses it as a whole. After all sides of the argument have been made, the
Balanced Lord and Keeper of Balance discuss the choices together, and make a
decision.

Requirements to join

To join the clan you must be of good or neutral alignment. You
must then catch the attention of the clan. You can only achieve membership
through invite. Afterwards, if you haven't yet achieved level ten, then you
must do so before membership can become a possibility. The Balanced Lord will
then give you a series of three quests that must be accomplished in order to
join the clan. The quests will vary from character to character, and will be
decided on by the clan. The first quest will be to prove that you are willing
to help the clan, and will most likely consist of acquiring a new piece of
equipment for a newer existing member. The second quest will prove that you
are willing to keep the balance in the world. You will be asked to retrieve
proof that you have killed an evil-aligned mob. The
final quest will be to prove how far you are willing to go to protect the
balance. You will be asked to retrieve proof that you have killed a mob of
the same alignment as yourself. Neutral-aligned characters may be asked to
kill good and evil aligned mobs, including a neutral mob. Once you have
completed the quests, the Balanced Lord will admit you into the clan.

Rules

No fighting between members will be permitted, with the exception of arena
battles. You must remain active on the mud to keep membership in the clan.
When asked, you must be willing to help all members of the clan, regardless of
alignment. This is necessary to ensure flawless teamwork in life or death
situations.
